SAS-MI Closes at New Year High of 48.05% YTD

The Ghana Stock Exchange extended losses to its fifth successive session, shedding 11.97 points to close at 2,327.51 points. This brings the YTD gain on the benchmark index to 37.80%. As a result, market capitalization declined by 0.48% to close at GHS57.90 billion.

The decline in the overall market performance was mainly caused by price depreciation in large cap financial stocks in spite of gains in manufacturing stocks. Activity level picked up as total volume and value traded surged 590.66% and 707.73% to 1,544,172 shares and GHS5,058,639.07 respectively.

The SAS-MI advanced the most, gaining 6.92 points to close at a new year high of 5,772.88 points. The gain translates to a YTD return of 48.05%. BOPP (+0.72%) and UNIL (+0.48%) led advancers.

The GSE-FI declined by 0.87% on the back of losses in SCB (-0.10%), GCB (-0.89%), ETI (-6.25%) and EGL (-5.84%). The YTD gain currently stands at 32.48%.

The aggregate bid/ask ratio rose to 0.7:1 against 0.4:1.We expect market sentiment to improve in the short to medium term.
